HBIS Chairman Meets BHP Group Sales & Marketing Officer Michiel Hovers

July 12, HBIS Chairman Yu Yong met BHP Group Sales & Marketing Officer Michiel Hovers in HBIS headquarter and in this meeting, they agreed to deepen their cooperation and continue the joint efforts of reduction of CO2. HBIS Vice President Li Yiren also attended the meeting.  

Yu Yong presented the HBIS 1.2million-ton Hydrogen Steel Making Pilot project to the visitors and said this was the first application of this technology in industrial production in globe and he believed that cooperation with BHP would be successful in green and low carbon industry. This project shows that the partners are fulfilling their social responsibilities. The commencement of green production is drawing great of attention of important clients, including BMW. Hydrogen steel making technology is the furture demand and owns great market potential.  

President Xi Jinping emphasized in the second meeting of Central Committee that it is necessary to base on the fact that China’s ecological civilization construction has entered a critical period with carbon reduction as the key strategic direction, improve the control of total energy consumption and intensity, and gradually shift to the dual control degree of total carbon emission and intensity, Yu Yong side, which is give a clear direction of the carbon reduction effort of Chinese steel industry and bring new opportunities for HBIS and BHP. In future, the two company should continue explore new ways in green and low carbon development.

 Michiel Hovers also introduced the new efforts of BHP in carbon reduction and sustainable development and said BHP would continue to work with HBIS, including in-depth development of bulk materials. In carbon reduction, the parties could jointly cope with the challenges of global climate shift and carbon reduction in the industry. Optimization of of current production procedures and processes and hydrogen in the industry, are also very good solutions. Already, BHP has carried out studies to support its partners looking for solutions in mass production. BHP will strengthen its communication with HBIS and the implementation of their joint projects and fulfill their responsibilities for HBIS in green and low carbon development and making their contribution in the grand efforts of carbon reduction of the industry.  

HBIS International Presidents and its Mineral Resources Department Director, Vice President from BHP Sales and Marketing, President from BHP China also attended the meeting.
